Writing for the Web

Writing for the Web is different from writing for paper.  Information on a Web site must be highly structured and organized for for easy access with minimum scrolling.  This workshop teaches anyone who writes documents that will be published on the Web (Internet or Intranet) how to use the easy-to-learn Information Mapping method to design and develop content for effective presentation on a Web site.

The writing method taught in this workshop is equally effective whether you are creating Web content using:

  • a Web page editing application such as Microsoft® Front Page, or
  • a word processor such as Microsoft® Word and conversion to HTML.

Class size is limited to 15 participants so that your instructor can give you individual attention during the workshop.

Objectives

After completing this course, you will be able to

  • apply the Information Mapping method for analyzing, organizing and presenting information so that it meets the needs of a Web audience
  • apply the Information Mapping method's research-based tools and tasks to create a clear, well-structured document
  • analyze the Web publishing environment as it applies to the audience, information and technology to ensure that the Web documents are effective
  • organize the information for presentation on a Web site so it is easy to find and access, and
  • present the information in a visually appealing way to maximize the effectiveness of your Web site.

Note: This workshop focuses on writing effective Web content, not HTML, scripting or other technical skills.
