Features and Benefits

Content Mapper has many features.

Special Features

Some of the special features include:

  • saving XML directly into a CMS repository
  • perfect XML round tripping – write in MS Word,
  • save as XML and re-open in MS Word.
  • inserting pictures and drawings stored in the CMS
  • the ability to reuse content via reference or clone
  • a single source publishing

    again

Publishing features
In today’s world, publishing is more than just printing. Content Mapper publishing is entirely XML and XSLT driven and user customizable.  Its features include:

  • PDF generation through built-in XSL-FO engine (that is, no Adobe_ license is required)
  • publishing to Word via XSLT
  • HTML publishing
  • publishing (conversion) to any other XML schema, for example DocBook, DITA, and more.

The publishing feature is not competing with the publishing feature of the CMS. Content Mapper's publishing feature is to support the author in proofing the content he just created.

Customization features
Content Mapper comes with a set of XML files which are easily customizable:
  • CMS-interface configuration
  • language and text
  • document metadata and XML-attributes
  • forms and document components
  • table options
  • publishing options
  • customized authoring/editing interface-based on Document Type.

Writing and editing features
Content Mapper’s full function authoring converts all text to valid XML regardless of styles used (even if the user has used cut-n-paste from outside sources), and uses

  • the full UTF-8 set of characters and symbols (the XML-engine preserves all UTF-8 characters)
  • customized DTD & Schema definitions
  • bold, italic, underline, superscript and subscript.
  • standard lists: bulleted and numbered
  • special styles for Note, Tip, Warning and Danger
  • standard tables, with resizable columns, merged cells and columns as well as split cells and embedded tables
  • support for standard binary objects (flowcharts, and so on) that are saved as VML XML.
  • pictures, clipart, and Word-art–including captions
  • mark index terms and bookmarks, and
  • hyperlink references to content fragments.
The publishing feature is not competing with the publishing feature of the CMS. Content Mapper's publishing feature is to support the author in proofing the content he just created.
