Q. What are Continuing Education Units (CEUs)?
A. The CEU is a nationally recognized method of quantifying the time spent in the classroom during professional development and training activities. Ten (10) hours of instruction equals one (1) CEU. The purpose for issuing CEUs is to provide a permanent record of training and continuing education for individuals who need to submit proof of their continuing education to state licensing boards and employers.

Q. How many CEUs may be awarded for any given program?
A. The number of CEUs awarded for an event is calculated based on the event's exact number of instructional hours. Under the IACET standards, ten (10) hours of instruction equals one (1) CEU. Instructional hours do not include time involved in coffee breaks, meals, social activities, business and committee meetings, or vendor exhibits. CEUs are not awarded to those individuals who leave a session or event early. See the example below:
Two-Day Workshop
Begin Time: 9:00 am
End Time: 4:30 pm
Total Time: 7.5 hours
Less 1.5 hours for lunch / breaks
6 hours of instruction = .6 CEUs *
* If ten (10) hours of instruction equals one (1) CEU, then six (6) hours of instruction equals .6 CEU.
