Employee Profile: Sean Murphy

Software Development Manager Sean Murphy is the primary developer for Information Mapping’s product, Formatting Solutions® Pro (FS Pro). “I’m involved in all aspects of designing, developing, testing, and supporting new features, enhancements, and bug fixes,” says Sean. “I also contribute to numerous other projects and tasks on a technical level. I like to be a helping hand where needed.”

Determining the Next Release
Sean released FS Pro 3.0e, which included support for Windows® Vista and Microsoft® Word 2007, to the public in September and is now working to determine what will be in the next version of the software. “I do that by looking at all of the feedback our users have given us on our previous releases. FS Pro 3.0e was first released to our Upgrade Subscription Plan members and to our Beta testers, so we have received some good feedback on this version,” according to Sean. “We’ll use this information to determine what we think will be most beneficial to our entire user community.”

From the Information Mapping headquarters in Waltham, MA, Sean also assists with complex technical issues and IT projects.

“What I especially enjoy,” says Sean, “is looking first-hand at problems that our users are experiencing and then working through them to find a solution, whether it’s a new way of creating a document or a fix in a new version of the software.”

After a one-year stint as a data base administrator and software developer at SeaChange International, in Maynard, MA, in the late 90s, Sean was recruited by Information Mapping after meeting CFO at a user group meeting, where Sean was the vice president. He arrived at Information Mapping to work on a major data base project and then, 18 months later, transferred to R&D and started working on FS Pro, where he’s been for the past six years.

Family Friendly
Sean works out of Information Mapping’s corporate headquarters in Waltham and from his home just over the state line in Newmarket, NH. “Information Mapping is a very family friendly place which is very important to me,” says Sean, who has a daughter, Aislynn, 12; two sons, Griffin, 7, and Brayden, 3; wife Kimberly, of 13 years; two dogs; and three cats. In his spare time, he is a drummer in a modern/classic rock band and coaches football for 7-9 years olds.
